Time to hit the books

Fri Aug 21, 2009, 6:29 AM
Now that I have a self imposed break in drawing projects I think it is time for me to start studying drawing again.

I know I really need to study anatomy, life drawing, perspective and composition. I am not really sure which one I need the most. I think composition. It is so basic and I know I never think about it when I draw. I bet it would really help my art a lot.

I also think life drawing will help more then anatomy because my style doesn't really show many muscles. But I would still like to study anatomy some. Not sure if you'd lump anatomy and life drawing into the same bucket. I think of anatomy as how the body is built and life drawing as how the body moves.

So I want to study really hard for a month or two before I start trying my next comic. If you guys think anatomy or perspective would help more, let me know what you think.

I haven't really posted much art lately, not because I've been slacking. I've done 16 pages over the last month, but they've been for other people. So don't want to post them. actually 10 of them were for the artist searches, so I guess I could post those.

I'm currently on my second zuda comic and I've already posted thread on this on the Zuda forums, but I need your advise on this as well:

Could I use physical 8.5 x 11 paper for my comic?

Would I be able to rotate the page horizontally and submit it That way?

Or do I need different size paper?

Sorry to bother :)
:iconslidestudios:
oh yeah, don't forget to scan at 300dpi

Thanks again, man, for the Needed help!

You could use 8.5x11. you would draw on it sidewise, right (11wide x 8.5high)? When you scan the page into your computer, you would need to increase the page size to 2700pixels by 2063 (or 12x9inches). This will give you a larger white, empty border around your art. You could increase the page size (once in your computer) to something really close to 12x9. Then increase the canvas size. For example, scan in 8.5x11, in photoshop:menu:image:image size:increase size to 11.647x9, then menu:image:canvas size:change the width to 12. The reason you don't want to just change the image size to 12x9 is because it will stretch your art. Doing it this way will decrease the amount of white border around the art. Art stores do sell sketchbooks and art paper that is exactly 9x12 though. Hope that helps.
